Part 2 of 5 Tips for Attracting More Readers.
Writing a killer headline will help you get your blog noticed.
You need to attract readers to your blog. With the many that are published every day you have to stand out from the crowd.
A good headline can make or break any post.
Make it Attractive to Readers
The post has to jump out as being something you want to read. For this reason, you need to consider the topic you are writing about. You need to pull the reader in, without promising something you can’t achieve in the full post.
For example: ‘How to Become A Millionaire in 24 hours.’
No blog is going to provide these details. You might be offering tips on becoming profitable but, you can’t state someone will be a millionaire in 24 hours. If such a post exists and works please send it my way.
However a headline of ’10 Tips to Help You On Your Way to Your First Million.’ is acceptable.
Your First Headline is Not the One
On average you should spend at least 15–20 minutes designing a good headline. Don’t always go with your first idea. Many writers have a working title and then redefine it.
Ensure you have included a good idea of the content in your title. Your content must deliver on your headline.
Once you have written some potential headlines, put them in CoSchedule to see which has the highest score. It is here that you can juggle a few words around to get the best headline for your post.
Avoid posts that are click bait. For example; ‘Pink’s New Weight Loss Trick.’ When you click it you are sent straight to a page that promotes diet pills. There are several other ways of making money from your blog this is not it.
Post too many clickbait articles and you will be deemed unreliable. Your follower count will suffer.
Make the Headline Pop
The headline should jump out at the reader.
The article I got the most clicks on was ‘5 Tips for Attracting More Readers With a Killer First Sentence.’
It was so successful it sparked me to write a series of these posts. All will have similar headlines to identify them as part of a series. If people liked the first post, they are attracted to the next post with a similar title.
It is important not to answer all your questions in your headline. You still want readers to read the article. Create some mystery with your title. This allows the readers to pursue the knowledge through your article.
For example ’19 Places You Have to Visit Before Your 50.’
You could have called this post, ’19 Places to Visit Before Your 30.’
If you did this, however, you would miss out on all the readers aged 30–50. Careful wording is essential.
Once you craft your killer headline then ensure you include an image with every post. The statistics for how many more people click on a post with an image rather than without is insane. Ensure that this image is copyright free. There are several websites that offer license-free pictures. I use Pexel but, a quick google search would come up with several more.
