Band of Gold – Poem

How I dreamed of that band of gold when I was younger

My career filled the void left on my finger

My friends gained their bands of security and love

How I dreamed of that band of gold when I was younger

Sharing days when others received their band

Still the beautiful band eluded me my hand was bare

How I dreamed of that band of gold when I was younger

Then the band was mine my dream come true

How I cherished that band for the symbol it was

How I dreamed of removing that band when I was older

The band it tightened and started suffocating

The light faded from my life as the restraint remained

How I dreamed of removing that band when I was older

I twisted I turned I pulled but still it remained

How I hated that band of gold and the power it held

How I dreamed of removing that band when I was older

It came free the light appeared elsewhere

The love returned the life continued the joy returned

How I dream of that band of gold now I am older
