Flipboard made by dreams soar and then smashed them to pieces.
Last month I published a post on ‘How to write your first novel’and the views went crazy in 24 hours. I started to gain the stats I thought I could only dream about. Two thousand views in 24 hours.
Then the bubble burst as I studied the figures closely. 2.7K views resulted in a read ratio of 24%. The claps registered at 238.
This I thought tells me a lot about the quality of my writing. A great headline with nothing to keep the readers engaged or clapping.
Looking further at the stats, showed an even stranger trend. Most of the views came externally from an application called Flipboard.
At the time I thought what the hell is Flipboard and how have they got the link to my article.
What is Flipboard
Flipboard is a program that acts as a news outlet and blog reading service. It collects content from social media, news feeds, websites and presents it in magazine format.
You can choose the topics you are interested in and the application does the rest.
I am only a real amateur, but I am finding my way around. Yes, the one thing the stats did accomplish was I downloaded Flipboard.
To this day I still have no idea how my post ended up on Flipboard. I have even tried to find it through my account and failed. If anyone knows how this happened, please comment.
Failure of Flipboard
Although Flipboard helped me to get views I was dreaming of, it didn’t enhance my stats.
The reads were not transferred into claps. This may have been because the post was awful. Or may have been because people from Flipboard didn’t know you could clap more than once.
What was worse, but the money it yielded was pitiful. Despite the initial elation of post views, my success was limited.
However, I can not be disappointed. As it did provide me with an introduction to a new application. Flipboard has increased my reading and exposure to other writers hugely.
It has also given me the encouragement to keep writing. Perhaps now I can produce these views and maintain my read and fan ratio.
Have you had any experience of Flipboard?
