Who would you invite?
So as the year draws to a close, it is time to arrange the best New Year’s party you can. This might seem a little early but invites need to be sent.
You have decided to have a small dinner party of six people including yourself.
The rules, you can invite anyone alive or dead. All you need is to come up with five names and tell us why you would invite them.
My Party Guests.
As a writer, JK Rowling is my hero. Her rags to riches story have inspired me for years. I also admire the fact that she wrote her adult books under a pen name to prove Harry Potter was not a fluke. She is a courageous woman.
What a learning curve sitting at a dinner table talking about writing with her.
Jefferson was the third President of the United States. He was also considered one of the founding fathers and was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Although, he has some controversy surrounding him having once stating
all men are created equal
Reportedly he had a large number of slaves on his plantation. These are not the reasons I would invite him. It is for his writing journals.
For many years I have been obsessed with Commonplace Journals. Johnson wrote some of the most famous commonplace books. I would love to pick his brains about the quotes and literacy he found important enough to include.
Some may not be familiar with this lady, but she is the ultimate party guest. She is most famous for playing Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films.
There is so much more to talk to with this amazing lady about. She is a political activist who has never been shy of stating her points of view. She is also one of the first women to state she was a lesbian, within acting.
There are too many aspects to this amazing woman’s life to list here. The main reason, that she would be the ultimate party guest is she is hilarious. Watch one of her performances on Graham Norton and you will see what I mean.
Since the early days of the Gilmore Girls, I have loved McCarthy. Her sense of humour is one I relate to. She is also super talented. I have watched every film of hers and count down the moments until another is released.
It is not just her sense of humour that would make her a good guest. She is also a talented impressionist. Inviting her to my party would mean you could have a whole theatre full of guests.
Not only would he get on with the comedians amongst the group, he would also engage well with Jefferson. Stephen Fry is one of the most fascinating people to listen to. He has such a wealth of knowledge on a range of subjects.
He has also had his fair share of personal battles, that would make interesting conversation. He has a voice I could listen to for hours.
So there is, the five people I would invite for New Year. I think these five would include a good mix of humour, stories and debate, the perfect dinner mix.
It is now over to you. Who would you invite to your party?
